A Place of Comfort

Being invited into someone's home is something that is very honoring.
This is a place where someone is able to take off their shoes,
hang their hat; this is a place of comfort.
Everyone has (or should have) a place where they are able to feel safe and
allow themselves to be vulnerable.
Having a home means you are probably financially stable,
which is a big thing in an economic-driven society.
Not only is a home a reflection of your wealth or economic status,
it's also a reflection of your personality.
Homes should be ridden with furniture and decor that showcases
your personal tastes and style.
Choosing how one decorates this space is something very interesting to me,
since this is where they choose to live and stay, it should be dripping with personality.
Whether your thing is modern, rustic, colonial, or more, it's always you.
I wanted to capture these different styles or preferences
present in a couple of houses I visited throughout the past month.
All these homes were in the West-Island, generally all in my neighborhood.
I had a couple cat-sitting jobs, so the first two of these photos are from those houses.
I had the honor of visiting my art teacher's home in the beginning of April,
and this inspired me to take this direction with my project.
Her home was full of cute little knickknacks and tchotchkes, the walls were full of
her paintings she painted throughout the years of her career.
It was so quirky and quaint, I fell in love with her decor.
A couple of photos are from her home, you can see her little
Siamese cat knickknacks on her piano.
The others are from various friend's houses.
(I also noticed that many of the photos include flowers and plants,
this was not intentional, though I do like it. I guess I'm just attracted to plants.)
I decided to take a documentary approach, I did not move anything around
or rearrange any elements in the home. I did not want to disturb the
natural placement or order of the objects the owner put them in.
I simply took the photos, I moved around if I wanted to get different angles.
I looked at a couple interior design photography projects,
to see how other photographers used light, colors, perspective, and composition.
Though I knew what I wanted to do, and I'm pretty proud of what
I have done for this final project. I hope you enjoy it as well.☺️
